Description Looking southeast from near the north sideward on the western third from the central part of Aioi Bridge. On the right side of the photo, the railings of the bridge connecting the bridge's west side to the Nakajima district were blown away by the blast, and the streetcars' electric utility poles were also tilted. In the right foreground is the left bank railing of Aioi Bridge. Behind it is the Japan Red Cross Society Hiroshima Chapter, which barely remained standing, with only its concrete frame, due to the bomb's heat and blast and the ensuring fire. The branch's wooden building on the south side was completely destroyed by fire. In the center of the photo is the Atomic Bomb Dome, which is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The buildings in the background are, from the left, the Norinchukin Bank Hiroshima Branch, the Sanwa Bank Hiroshima Branch, the Bank of Japan Hiroshima Branch, and (on the other side of the Dome) the Hiroshima Gas head office. The river on the far right is the Motoyasu River, and the bridge over it is the Motoyasu Bridge, which was rebuilt in 1992 by reusing parts of the pillars and railings that were exposed to the A-bomb. At this time, there was an unobstructed view of Mt. Ogonzan to the left of the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall (Atomic Bomb Dome).
