Description | Looking from south to north-northeast (Hiroshima Nagarekawa Church). The three-story steel-framed building, which was expanded to serve as a combined retail shop and warehouse for a kimono wholesaler, was twisted by the blast and was completely destroyed in the ensuing high-temperature fire. Over time, the wreckage of this building gradually crumbled under the weight of the iron, changing its appearance, which was recorded by many as a symbol of the power of the high-temperature fires caused by the bombing. The wreckage was plundered as valuable iron material. On the right is the Chugoku Shimbun new building, which completely burned inside, and behind it is Hiroshima Nagarekawa Church. |
