Looking north from the center of the east side of Ote-machi Street. Wooden houses along Ote-machi Street, near the hypocenter, were completely burned down. Non-wooden buildings, like that of an insurance company, barely maintained their shape. Center-frame, the headquarters of the Hiroshima Gas Company. The building’s northeast side, which faced the hypocenter, crumbled severely from the third to the first floors, leaving only the entrance hall, whose round columns support the balcony. In the background to the left is Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall (now the A-bomb Dome). The chimney to the right of the headquarters is in the northwestern corner of Tanaka Otological Clinic at 3-chome, Ote-machi. |
