Description | Looking north from the northwest corner of the First Branch of the Hiroshima First Army Hospital. All wooden hospital wards were instantly destroyed by the blast and heat rays. Only the foundations of each building remained. The hospital was called Hiroshima Chindai Hospital in the early Meiji period (1868-1912), and was renamed Hiroshima Eiju Hospital when it was moved to Kosho-machi along the Otagawa riverside. It was renamed Hiroshima Army Hospital in 1937 (Showa 12). At the time of the atomic bombing, the hospital was headed by Major General Keishiro Motoyoshi. |
