Description | This photograph was taken in Yamaguchi-cho (now Kanayama-cho), looking toward the Hatchobori area, when the streetcar line between Hiroshima Station and the Yamaguchi-cho area, which had been closed, was reopened on October 11. With this, all major lines, including those connecting Hiroshima Station to the Koi area and Hiroshima Station to the Ujina area, were in operation. Restored streetcar service encouraged devastated citizens. The buildings whose outlines remain are, from left, the Hiroshima Branch of Nihon Kangyo Bank, the Chugoku Shimbun, the main building of the Fukuya Department Store, and across the street, the old building of the Fukuya Department Store. |
