Description Looking east from the entrance to Hondori shopping street, one of the city’s main commercial districts. Wooden stores that lined the street were burned down, and reinforced concrete buildings lay in ruins. Sunlight shines into the Hiroshima branch of the Yasuda Life Insurance Company (about 250 meters from the hypocenter) in the left foreground through the ceiling collapsed by the atomic bomb blast. The buildings that survived the fire are, from left, the Hiroshima Branches of the Yasuda Life Insurance Company, Obayashi Corporation (490 meters), Yasuda Bank (520 meters), and Imperial Bank (360 meters).
