Description | A woman with serious burns on her face who was brought to the Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital. This hospital was also an army hospital, and it remained standing in an area where almost all buildings collapsed and burned. It had a greater stock of medical supplies than other hospitals, but such supplies ran out quickly as the hospital treated a flood of victims who came soon after the bombing. It continued to provide round-the-clock care to victims, without closing hospital operations even for a day. By the end of August, 792 relief workers had taken care of 31,000 patients at the hospital. |
