Description | This is a monument to commemorate Emperor Meiji's visit to Hiroshima. In 1885, Emperor Meiji visited Hiroshima and used Kaikosha, a kind of military club, as temporary lodging to accommodate his visit. It is believed this stone monument was erected at Kaikosha to commemorate the visit. From the front right are the Fukuya Department Store old building, Chugoku Shimbun Newspaper Company new and main buildings, and Nippon Kangyo Bank Hiroshima Branch. On the left, behind the monument, Hiroshima Nagarekawa Church can be seen. |
