Description Looking southeast toward Hiratsuka and Hijiyama hill from the rooftop of the Chugoku Shimbun Newspaper Company's new building. The photo was published as a photograph of the scorched city of Hiroshima with only one chimney left and is considered to be the first photograph to convey the devastation of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima to the rest of the country. The chimney belonged to Kubota Honten, a soy sauce brewery in Chigiya-cho, and part of it is on display at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.
