Description | Looking north-northeast from Ninomaru (second enclosure of the castle). The stone wall in the center is where Nakagomon (the middle gate) used to stand. The color of the stones has changed due to the fire. To the left of the stone wall is the air defense operation room of the Chugoku Military District Headquarters, built in a semi-underground bunker. The tree in the center with leaves is a eucalyptus, and to the right of the fallen cedar, far in the back, is a pussy willow. Both trees bear painful keloid scars from the fire, but they still have lush leaves every year. The mountains behind are, from left, Mt. Ushita and the western slope of Mt. Futaba. |
