| Description | Lodging for the Meiji Emperor, known as Gobenden, used to stand at a location in the rear of the photograph. The building, located 1.9 kilometers from the hypocenter, collapsed in the atomic bombing, and the square in front of it was later filled with victims who fled there for safety. Gobenden was built for the emperor, who attended the Imperial Diet held in Hiroshima City, where the Imperial headquarters was set up during the Shino-Japanese War. |
