| Description | Taken looking east from the downstream side at Honkawa River's right bank. The bridge was loved as a new landmark in Hiroshima; in the bombing, its west side collapsed, and only a small portion of the girder was left in the east side. The water pipe attached to the bridge was broken, rending it unable to supply water. The bridge's steel truss also collapsed and was submerged in the river. The Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall (Atomic Bomb Dome) can be seen in the left background. |
