On the far left in the center are the former locations of the Communication Replacement Unit, the Hiroshima Regimental Headquarters, and the District Headquarters. Their wooden buildings were completely destroyed by fire. On the day after the atomic bombing, August 7, a tent was erected in the fire-devastatd area, and it served as a temporary command post to communicate with the Ship Control Center and others. From the back left are the Fukuya Department Store, Shoko Chukin Bank Hiroshima Branch, Kirin Beer Hall, and Shimomura Clock Shop. Near the center are Obayashi Construction Company Hiroshima Branch, Yasuda Bank Hiroshima Branch, Hiroshima Central Telephone Station, and Fukuromachi National Elementary School. The large lotus pond in the foreground is the inner moat.
