Description Food supplies such as canned goods were brought in after being unloaded in front of the Hiroshima Higashi (East) Police Station, which also served as the temporary prefectural office. A signboard reading “East Police Station” and characters reading “Geibi Bank” on the door are visible. The building, formerly the Geibi Bank Shimoyanagicho branch, had been leased to the Hiroshima East Police Station since July 1945. From August 7, the day after the atomic bombing, it became the temporary prefectural government office. Under Governor Genshin Takano, measures such as coordinating relief efforts and distributing 200,000 canned food packages were carried out. Behind the truck, the wreckage of an A-bombed streetcar and many people coming and going can be seen. The crates being brought in are marked using the English alphabet (e.g., “BFV H-12”).
