In the center are Hiroshima Electric Railway’s streetcar tracks. From the left: the remains of the first turret of the outer moat of the ruined Hiroshima Castle; the official residence of the Chugoku Military District Headquarters; the trace of the outer moat of the ruined Hiroshima Castle; Fukuya Department Store’s old building, and Fukuya Department Store. Within one month after the A-bombing, more and more survivors came to Hiroshima City carrying two-wheel carts or driving trucks full of household goods. People also came to the rescue from the suburbs with as much luggage as they could carry on their backs, one after another. |
