| Description | From the upstream east side of Motoyasu Bridge, looking west (Nakajima district). From left: Fujii Trading Company, the Hiroshima branch office of Nippon Kan’i Kasai Insurance Company, a main pillar on the south side of Motoyasu Bridge, and the Hiroshima branch of Mitsui Life Insurance Company. The area to the right is Nakajima-honmachi, and in the right foreground is Motoyasu River. Motoyasu Bridge is located almost directly beneath the A-bomb’s detonation point, and was hit by the blast from nearly directly above. As a result, its parapets fell into the Motoyasu River and this main pillar's hibukuro (where the fire of the stone lantern would be lit) was shifted. |
