| Description | Downstream, on the east side of Motoyasu Bridge, looking west (Nakajima-honmachi). The foreground is downstream of Motoyasu River. The central building is Fuel Hall, and on the right edge are Fujii Trading Company and the Hiroshima branch office of Nippon Kan’i Kasaki Insurance Company. The street from Motoyasu Bridge heading west is Nakajima Street (old Sanyo Highway, Saigoku Kaido). The burned area on the left (south) side of Fuel Hall is near Harada Surgery in Nakajima-honmachi. Motoyasu Bridge is located almost directly under the A-bomb's point of detonation. The blast, coming from almost directly overhead, destroyed the bridge parapets and shifted the main pillars' hibukuro (the fire box where the lantern is lit). The southern parapets facing the east side of Fuel Hall were destroyed and fell. |
