| Description | South on Saikumachi Street, looking north. The south wall of the collapsed Shima Hospital. The hospital was completed in 1933 and was a two-story brick building with distinctive round columns and circular windows on both sides of the entrance. However, the building was completely destroyed and incinerated along with roughly 75 patients and staff by the A-bomb, which detonated 600m in the air above. The wooden board propped up diagonally between a standing woman (right) and the triangle-shaped wall in the center is a message board (A-845) written by the director of the hospital, Dr. Kaoru Shima, asking for the whereabouts of missing patients and hospital staff. |
